68TH INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION 2025

The East Gonja Municipality in Savannah Region on Thursday, 6th March,2025 joined in the celebration of Ghana’s 68th Independence Day held at the Salaga Community Astroturf under the theme, “Reflect, Review and Reset”.

The usual annual colourful parade of large number of Pupils and Students from both Basic and Senior High Schools lining up for march-past was completely absent.  But only fifteen (15) Pupils from Basic Schools from the Municipality together with the School Cadet Groups from both Senior High Schools and Basic Schools  were organized for the event.  Display of cultural activities, drama and poetry recitals by some few selected schools from the Municipality highlighted the occasion.

In attendance were the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Mr Sylvester Naah Yaw Kyiileyang, Member of Parliament of Salaga -South, Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, Municipal Director of Education, Madam Abiba Bakari Soale, some Assembly Members, a cross section of Staff of the Assembly, Ghana Education Service, Security Agencies, the Ambulance Service, and a section of Community Members.

The Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Sylvester Naah Yaw Kyiileyang, who represented the Savannah Regional Minister Mr. Sualisu Be-Awuiribe in his speech expressed the honour accorded him and the privilege to address participants on such important commemorative gathering noting that the theme for the event was centered on cutting down the high cost usually associated with such anniversary. In addition, it was also meant to reflect on our past, to review the present achievements and challenges in order to reset the nation’s path to development and prosperity. He added that Ghana is much admired to be the beacon of democracy particularly in  Africa and there was the need to use the anniversary to remind ourselves of setting the right course to economic recovery and greatness. The MCD urged the people of Salaga to uphold unity which has become our strength and pride while we forge ahead with one purpose as good citizens to make Ghana great and live in peaceful co-existence.

The Municipal Director of Education Madam Abiba Bakari Soale urged school children to take keen interest in learning and to be good leaders to take over from the current generation.

The Member of Parliament stated that President John Mahama wanted Ghanaians to take their destinies into their own hands and work towards achieving the set goals of developing the nation. She further asked what the citizens could do for the country and not the other way round. She assured the people of Salaga that the NDC Government had awarded a contract to connect Salaga to a different line to address the frequent power outages and work will soon start in earnest.

The Member of Parliament of Salaga -South, Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah stated that H.E President John Dramani Mahama wanted Ghanaians to take their destinies into their own hands and work towards achieving the set goals of developing the nation. She further asked what the citizens could do for the country and not the other way round. She assured the people of Salaga that the NDC Government had awarded a contract to connect Salaga to a different line to address the frequent power outages and work will soon start in earnest.

The presentation of certificates and prizes ranges from jerseys, football and volley balls were presented to some Junior High Schools for excelling in football and volley ball competitions as well as the match-past. At the end of the event
