On Wednesday, 6th March, 2024, Ghana celebrated her 67 years of independence gained from the British colonial rulers. The East Gonja Municipality joined the rest of the country to mark the day. The event was held at the Salaga Astro-turf park under the Theme, “Our Democracy, Our Pride”.
The celebration brought together pupils and students from Basic and Second Cycle Schools, students from the Kpembe Nurses and Midwifery Training College, personnel from the security services and the general public. Also, The Overload of the Kpembe Traditional Area, His Royal Highness, the Kpembewura, thronged the ground with his entourage.
About 1,800 school pupils, Cadet Corps and Voluntary Organizations took part in took part in the parade and march past. The students showed their excitement for participation. Delivering the opening remarks, the Municipal Director of Education, Madam Christiana Maabo Donzu, thanked Teachers for their tireless effort in preparing the students for the march past and parents for their support in making the event successful. She admonished parents to take education of their children seriously and monitor them to ensure that, they do not involve themselves in rising crime rate in the country.
Delivering the anniversary speech, the Hon. Municipal Chief Executive, used the opportunity to commend the personnel of the security, pupils, students, teachers as well as voluntary and civil society organizations and the political parties who have participated in this wonderful parade.
There was the display of the beautiful of cultural activities by various cultural groups from the Senior High Schools and other cultural groups in the area. Also on display, was poetry recitations from pupils from some Primary Schools. The various Cadet Corps from the Senior High Schools was not also left out in their display to the admiration of the General Public.
At the event marking the anniversary, prizes were also presented to deserving schools who excelled in sports competition organized to mark the celebration and the march past
