69TH INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION ON 6TH MARCH, 2026, AT SALAGA ASTRO TURF PARK

Ghana marked its 69th Independence Anniversary on Friday, 6th March, 2026 under the theme “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope”. East Gonja Municipal Assembly held its District-level celebration at the Salaga Astroturf Park, aligning with the national directive to observe the day across all regions.

Parade and March Past

Schoolchildren from basic and Senior High schools in the Municipality alongside, boys scout contingents from the Two (2) Senior High Schools,  participated in a march past. Rehearsals were held in the weeks leading up to the event to ensure coordination and precision.

Official Addresses

Hon Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), representing HE the President of the Republic, addressed participants. His speech focused on unity, economic recovery and the need to reduce the cost of anniversary celebrations while reflecting on past achievements and future development.

The Municipal Director of Education urged students to take learning seriously and prepare as future leaders.

Significance

The 2026 celebration emphasized cost-effectiveness and citizen participation, consistent with government’s scaled-down approach, held at the forecourt of Presidency in Accra.

At the this level, the Salaga Astroturf Park provided a central accessible venue for community engagement and national reflection.

The event served to renew commitment to unity, peace and local development, while inspiring students and citizens to contribute to Ghana’s prosperity.

Cultural Displays and Civic Engagement

The event included cultural performance and civic education messages on national unity, patriotism and collective responsibility for development.

 Attendance

The celebration brought together Traditional authorities, Hon. Assembly Members, Heads of department, Security agencies, Schoolchildren, Teachers, Youth and Women groups and community members from Salaga Town and surrounding communities.
