The renovation works estimated at GHs 89,653.37, involved replacement of old windows, doors and the painting of the building amongst others.
The office block was constructed in 2001 and has been in a deplorable state affecting the operations of the Municipal Directorate of Education.
Mr Mohammed Tamimu, East Gonja Municipal Chief Executive, who handed over keys of the renovated office block to its authorities at Salaga, expressed hope that with the renovation of the edifice, the directorate would be better positioned to discharge its duties to improve education in the area.
He expressed concern with the poor performance of pupils in the Municipality in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations attributing the situation to poor supervision adding “teacher absenteeism, limited teaching staff, lack of motivation, irresponsible parenting are some of the contributing factors for the poor performance of students in the area.”
He said the Assembly was constructing a 3-unit classroom block for Imamiya School at Salaga adding the Assembly has also made provisions in the 2018 budget for the construction of a hostel facility at Timu Girls Junior High School.
He said a 3-unit classroom block each for the Sissipe and Kpalbusi Junior High Schools and 31st December School have been earmarked for construction while plans are underway to procure and distribute 800 dual desks to schools in the Municipality.
Mr Abu Mohammed, East Gonja Municipal Director of Education, said the renovation of the block would help directorate and teachers to work with dedication, commitment and a sense of responsibility and prepare the young generation to take over the mantle of leadership.
